PANELS
STRONG WOMEN, INDIGENOUS WOMEN
Growing up in Australia as a First Nations person is an experience most of us are ignorant of, and in more insular Australian communities, the issues faced by our Indigenous population are invisible and not spoken of. It is no far stretch to say that the average Australian is unaware of the full extent of the discrimination, racism, and inequalities embedded in our nation, rooted in the invasion of this unceded land that perpetuate themselves in systems of oppression that exist to this day.
This panel will bring together Indigenous women to counter this lack of awareness, discussing what it’s like to grow up Indigenous in Australia, sharing the reality for Aboriginal people and the issues regarding their treatment and portrayal, and discussing whether First Nations women have been misrepresented by the ‘white feminist movement’. The panelists will share how non-Indigenous women can “show-up” as allies and support Indigenous women in the community, and what they believe should change going forward. Facilitated by Ella Noah Bancroft.
GLOBAL CHANGE MAKERS & ACTIVISTS
With so many pressing world issues requiring urgent action, it can be easy for us to feel overwhelmed and look away. In this panel, meet women who feel a global responsibility to act on the many problems the planet faces, aiming to be a part of the solutions to the issues that keep them up at night.
From climate change and the global refugee crises, to human rights abuses and corruption, the panelists will discuss what drives them in their work, how everyone can meaningfully engage more with the world’s most complex problems, and how to replace frustration with hope for the future, when the problems of the world seem too much.
In “Global Change-makers and Activists,” you’ll meet passionate and optimistic women who believe they are working toward a better humankind each day.
HEALTHY happy WOMEN
Bodies and hormones, diet and unexplained pains. This panel will discuss all your health queries and concerns; yes, including and especially the ones you normally turn to “Doctor Google” for!
The Healthy Women panel will be even more comprehensive this year, featuring a range of medical, fertility and healthcare professionals who will attempt to cover it all. You will be treated to a discussion and question-and-answer session including (but of course not limited to!) chronic pain, gut health and veganism, and of course sexual health, vitamins and pregnancy.
Join us for the new and improved installment of Wierd Women’s investigation in just how we should be treating our body, what signs and symptoms to pay attention to, and what not to worry about at all.
